What this tool does
Converts cooling capacity from BTU/h into refrigeration tons and kilowatts. 12,000 BTU/h is one ton.
How to use it
- Enter the rated cooling capacity in BTU/h.
- Run it for tons and kilowatts.
Worked example
24,000 BTU/h is 2 tons, or about 7.03 kW.

- Is the kW figure electricity consumption?
- No. It expresses the heat moved by cooling in kilowatts. Actual power draw is much lower and depends on efficiency — read the product’s power rating.
- Does it tell me how many tons my home needs?
- No, it only converts units. For a sizing estimate use the air conditioner BTU calculator, which considers area, sun, and occupants.
What this tool does not cover
A capacity unit conversion only; it does not predict required cooling load, nor address heating capacity or efficiency ratings.
