What this tool does
Re-saves a PDF with an optimised internal object structure to reduce size. It is lossless — images are not recompressed — so text and graphics keep their quality.
How to use it
- Choose a PDF file.
- Run it; the result shows the compressed file and the before-and-after byte counts.
- Open the downloaded file and confirm every page renders correctly.
Worked example
A three-page PDF comes back as a three-page PDF with tidied object streams. The result shows both byte counts, so you can see immediately whether it actually shrank.
Frequently asked questions
- The file got bigger.
- Already-optimised files, or files whose original object layout is more compact, can grow. Check the byte counts in the result and keep the original if it is smaller.
- An image-heavy PDF barely shrank.
- Because images are not recompressed. For scans, where images are most of the size, gains are small. If you accept quality loss, compress the images first and then build the PDF.
