Handling a leftover cent when splitting expenses
A shared expense may not divide evenly by the number of people. Splitting 10.00 among three people as 3.33 each leaves 0.01 unallocated.
This tool calculates in integer cents and distributes leftover cents in participant input order. The example becomes 3.34, 3.33, 3.33. It compares each person’s payments with their share and produces settlement transfers.
The model assumes everyone shares every expense equally. Separate meals involving only some people, personal purchases and different currencies beforehand. Compare the total with the original receipts before settling.
